Pumpkin season is here and we were invited to taste what 4 Rivers Sweet Shop has been baking up. The Pumpkin Bayou Bar and the Pumpkin Bomb have been this season's favorites. Those are good choices, but for us the Pumpkin Harvest Stack proved the winner, with a close tie from the Gingersnap Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake. Both are on the more pumpkin-y side and tasted light and creamy. The Pumpkin Harvest Stack was BIG - 3 layers of pumpkin sponge cake holding two layers of marscapone cream cheese filling. And that's before the caramel drizzled over the top! As big as it was, it was light too. It's the one dessert this season that's only available during pumpkin season. The other desserts are variations of year round classics and continue in their regular format when pumpkin season finishes.
The Pumpkin Cronut and the Pumpkin Bomb are this year's new additions from the Sweet Shop. If you haven't jumped on the cronut craze, well now's your chance to do it in style. The Pumpkin Cronut combines the best of a croissant and a donut. It comes fried to order, so it's hot when you get it. A mixture of brown and regular sugar combine with drizzled caramel to add sweetness to the outside.
