Talking about ZoŽs Kitchen with General Manager Hunter Bryant

1.†Tell us about ZoŽs Kitchen

ZoŽs Kitchen is a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant featuring fresh flavors that captivate the senses, and a few Southern favorites that became a staple at the first location in Birmingham.

The menu showcases entrees such as salads, pitas, sandwiches, and kabobs in addition to fresh sides like no-mayo slaw, potato salad, and braised white beans with fresh rosemary, among others.

ZoŽs Kitchen also has gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options which feature an abundance of fresh vegetables and herbs, lean proteins and flavor! We are committed to serving real, unprocessed foods, which is why there are no fryers or microwaves at ZoŽs.

2. What exactly is Mediterranean cooking?

ZoŽs Kitchen serves Mediterranean food where grilling is the predominate method of cooking along with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, olive oil and lean proteins. ZoŽ means “life” in Greek and this is encompassed in every aspect of ZoŽs Kitchen. We embrace the Mediterranean way of life – that a fulfilled, happy life is one shared with family, good friends, great food, and that eating wholesome, fresh ingredients is key.

3. Is there a ZoŽ?

Yes! ZoŽs Kitchen is an extension of ZoŽ Cassimus’ lifetime of cooking for family and entertaining friends. ZoŽ opened her first restaurant in 1995 using her original recipes for chicken salad, grilled chicken pita sandwiches, pasta and slaw. I don’t think she had any idea that her restaurant would catch on in such a big way.

4. Can you tell us about your menu?

The ZoŽs Kitchen menu is still inspired by ZoŽs family recipes and her simple, fresh-from-the-garden sensibility. Our signature dishes include Chicken Kabobs, Chicken Rollups and our home made Hummus. Ingredients are delivered fresh through the back door daily and our team hand-washes, cuts and prepares each item from scratch in the kitchen. ZoŽ keeps reminding us that “if it wasn’t food 100 years ago, it’s not food today.” †

It’s a grilled sandwich made with turkey, swiss cheese, coleslaw and spicy mustard, all served on rye bread.

7. What are some of your “southern favorites?”

Our Chicken Salad and Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwich are a couple Southern favorites that come from our roots!

8. Do you have any items you'd consider hidden gems?

Something that’s really fun and great for sharing are our Petite Pita Sandwiches. Petite Pitas can be filled with chicken salad, pimento cheese, Mediterranean tuna, tuna salad or egg salad and make the perfect finger food for any occasion.

9. For someone who has been to ZoŽs Kitchen a few times, can you recommend something a little different?

For the ZoŽs customer who is already a fan of the classics but is looking for a little something different, I'd recommend our Chicken Pita Pizza. It’s a really fresh pizza, made with feta, fresh basil, and marinara, then served with a side Greek Salad.

10. Can you tell us about your gluten free items?

We’ve got an entire menu dedicated to gluten free eating that offers a variety of items including soups, salads and entrťes. Many of our most popular menu items are on our gluten free menu, such as home made Hummus, Greek Salad and Chicken or Shrimp Kabobs.
