1. Tell us about The Smokin' Beaver.
In 1945, a small building on Arlington road was given to Cecil Aderhold and his brother by their father. They opened a BBQ and beer joint that has been open ever since.
The Smokin' Beaver moved in and has kept the long standing traditional BBQ and sauce recipes, adding a horse shoe pit, billiards, darts, private deck, live entertainment, video games & the coldest beer in town, making this a fun and affordable place where everyone feels welcome!
We like to be called......… “The Best Damn Place In Town” where everyone is welcome!
2. What makes The Smokin' Beaver special?
The people! Mike & Jeni Wewer were both raised in Jacksonville and both still have strong family ties here.
Mike served this country for the better part of 3 decades in the USMC & USCG. He was stationed many places during his career including a short stint at the Coast Guard Base in Mayport, keeping him near his true home!
After retiring, Mike and Jeni decided to open The Smokin' Beaver, a long time dream of Mike's. Jeni spent many years in the promotional products/advertising industry before managing bars & restaurants. Jeni lived and worked in Ohio and Oregon and then came back home to Jacksonville!
Together, they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
They both have a very strong sense of their obligation to give back to those in need and those that have sacrificed so much. The Smokin' Beaver sponsors/hosts dozens of charity events every year to raise money and awareness for various causes including AmVets, Wounded Warriors, Breast Cancer, Fallen Riders, and many more.
3. What sort of food do you serve?
Our menu is available from open - 3pm & 6:30pm-10pm every day with plenty of munchies available when the cook is sleeping!
4. Where do your recipes come from?
The owners, Jeni & Mike, created all the recipes, except for the BBQ pork ..... that's been around since 1945.
