Talking with Chick-fil-A about its new menu changes
1. In one or two sentences, how would you describe Chick-fil-A?
Chick-fil-A is an Atlanta-based fast food company known for the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich and for serving nutritious food in an atmosphere of genuine hospitality.
2. What sets Chick-fil-A apart from other fast food restaurants?
Unlike much of our competition, we make the majority of our food from scratch daily – we squeeze lemons to make our own lemonade, hand roll our biscuits every morning, bread our chicken, cut cabbage to make cole slaw, etc.
We also try to set a new standard for service in a fast food setting. We love to add touches to the dining experience that guests don’t expect. Customers have hundreds of restaurant choices in the Jacksonville area, so if they choose to dine with us, we want to make sure they have an exceptional experience!
3. Can you tell us about the new menu changes at Chick-fil-A? How many changes were made to the menu?
We are so excited to introduce a new lineup of grilled chicken entrees to our menu. The new grilled chicken can be found in the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Club sandwich, Grilled Nuggets, Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap, Grilled Market Salad, and the Chick-fil-A Chicken Salad.
4. Why were the changes made?
We know that our customers want nutritious options that taste great and are easy to eat on the go. Our customers live hectic lifestyles and often have eat on the run, so they need nutritious options that they can get quickly on the way to and from various activities.
5. Can you describe a few of the changes?
The new grilled chicken has a backyard-grilled flavor that tastes just like it was cooked on the grill you probably have at home. The new recipe is a delicious blend of sea salt, garlic, lemon and herbs. It’s marinated in the restaurant and then grilled on cast iron grates. The sandwich is served on a toasted multi-grain bun with lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The Club Sandwich is now served with Colby-Jack Cheese and Applewood smoked bacon. Our Grilled Nuggets aren't just for kids anymore; they are now an offering on our regular menu for adults. They make a great meal or even a protein-packed snack.
6. Are there any brand new items or are the changes all updates to existing items?
Our new recipe has been totally reinvented, which gives each of our grilled chicken entrees a brand new taste.
7. Who's the audience for the new menu items?
The top request from fast food restaurant customers is healthier food offerings. These new grilled menu items offer people of all ages a great tasting, nutritious chicken option. We anticipate our grilled entrees will be a favorite among Millenials and women who typically make a point to look for the most nutritious options available. However, early feedback shows that our new grilled chicken is a hit among men as well.
8. Does your new menu include any gluten free offerings?
Our new grilled chicken is made without gluten-containing ingredients, however we don’t have a gluten-free prep area in our restaurants.
9. Can you tell us a little about what went into creating the new grilled chicken?
Chick-fil-A’s chefs spent seven years perfecting the recipe. They worked with hundreds of recipe combinations before coming up with the final recipe.
The grill technology we are using is also an integral part of the rollout. We worked with our suppliers to search high and low to find a grill that would give us a true backyard grill taste. We weren’t satisfied with any of the existing grill options that were available, so our engineers developed our own, proprietary grill technology that sears chicken perfectly.
10. Why did it take so long to develop the new grill?
We worked with a number of suppliers trying to find an existing piece of equipment that would give us the backyard grilled flavor. It became apparent that what we needed didn’t exist so our engineers had to develop our own technology.
11. What will people notice most about the new grilled chicken compared your previous grilled chicken? Why will the new grilled options be more "craveable?"
Definitely the overall flavor and tenderness make it more craveable. We see guests who have tried the new grilled items visit our restaurants more often and they are anxious to tell us how much they love the new grilled options. Many have said it looks and tastes more like a sandwich you would expect at a full-service restaurant than a fast food restaurant.
